Hadith 36:218
Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, from Usama ibn Zayd, he said: al-Zuhri narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed by Hamza on the day of Uhud, and he had been mutilated. He stood over him and said: "Were it not that I fear Safiyya would feel something in herself, I would have left him until the beasts of prey ate him, so that he would be resurrected from their bellies." Then he called for a *nimra* (a striped garment). When it was stretched over his head, his feet were exposed, and when it was stretched over his feet, his head was exposed. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Stretch it over his head, and place *harmal* (wild rue) over his feet." Clothing was scarce and the slain were many, so one, two, or three men would be shrouded in a single garment. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would ask which of them had memorized more of the Quran, and he would place him forward.
