Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:303

Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Hisham narrated to us, from his father, that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in the expedition of Banu al-Mustaliq, when they arrived at the encampment and its people had departed, they drove them out, and there remained chickens in the mine [or: the settlement]. A fight occurred between some youths of the Emigrants (Muhajirun) and youths of the Helpers (Ansar). The youths of the Emigrants said: "O for the Emigrants!" And the youths of the Helpers said: "O for the Helpers!" This reached Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, so he said: "By Allah, if they had not spent upon them, they would have dispersed from around him. By Allah, if we return to Medina, the most honorable will surely drive out the most abased from it." This reached the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), so he ordered them to depart at that very moment to keep them occupied. He caught up with a party from Banu Abd al-Ashhal during the journey and said to them: "Do you not know what the hypocrite, Abdullah ibn Ubayy, said?" They said: "What did he say, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "He said: 'By Allah, if they had not spent upon them, they would have dispersed from around him. By Allah, if we return to Medina, the most honorable will surely drive out the most abased from it.'" They said: "He spoke the truth, O Messenger of Allah, for you, by Allah, are the honorable one, and he is the abased one."
