Hadith 36:359

Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, he said: 'Ikrimah ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah, from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, who said: When it was the day of Khaybar, the people were struck by famine, and they took domestic donkeys and slaughtered them, and filled the pots with them. That reached the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, commanded us, so we overturned the pots. He said: "There will come to you a provision that is more lawful than this and better." So we overturned the pots that day while they were boiling. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade on that day the meat of domestic donkeys, the meat of mules, every beast of prey having a canine tooth, and every bird having a talon. And he forbade the *mujaththamah* (an animal tied up and used as a target for shooting), the *khulsah* (plunder taken by stealth), and the *nahbah* (plunder taken openly).
