Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:365

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn al-Mughira narrated to us, he said: Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Rabah, who said: Delegations arrived to Mu'awiya, and among us was Abu Hurayra. That was in Ramadan. Some of us began to prepare food for others. He said: Abu Hurayra was among those who would prepare food for us, and he would make much of it and invite us to his quarters. He said: I said, "Shall I not prepare food for our companions and invite them to my quarters?" He said: So I ordered food to be prepared, and I met Abu Hurayra in the evening and said, "The invitation is at my place tonight." He said, "You have beaten me to it." He said: I said, "Yes." He said: So I invited them, and they were at my place. He said: Abu Hurayra said, "Shall I not inform you of a hadith from your own hadith, O assembly of the Ansar?" He said: Then he mentioned the conquest of Mecca. He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) advanced until he entered Mecca. He appointed al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam over one of the two flanks, and he appointed Khalid ibn al-Walid over the other flank, and he appointed Abu Ubayda over the infantry (al-hasr), and they took the bottom of the valley. He said: And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was in a battalion. He said: So he called me and said, "O Abu Hurayra!" I said, "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Call out the Ansar for me, and let no one come to me except an Ansari." He said: So I called them out. He said: They came until they surrounded him. He said: Quraish had gathered their rabble and followers. They said, "If these people advance, they will have a share with us, and if they are struck down, we will have given what was asked of us." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to the Ansar when they surrounded him, "Do you see the rabble of Quraish and their followers?" Then he placed one of his hands upon the other and said, "Reap them!" Then Sulayman struck the edge of his right palm against the palm of his left hand, saying, "Reap them, a reaping!" until they reached al-Safa. So we set out, and there was no one among us who wished to kill any of them except that he killed him, while not one of them could direct anything toward us. Abu Sufyan said, "O Messenger of Allah, has the green of Quraish been made lawful after this day?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Whoever closes his door is safe." He said: So the people closed their doors. He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) advanced until he touched the Black Stone and circumambulated the House. He came upon an idol next to the House that they used to worship, and in his hand was a bow, and he was holding the bow by its string. He began to poke it in its eye, saying: "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished." Until, when he finished his circumambulation, he came to al-Safa and ascended it, where he could look at the House. He raised his hands and began to praise Allah, remember Him, and supplicate as he wished to supplicate. He said: And the Ansar were below him. He said: The Ansar were saying to one another, "As for the man, a desire for his village and compassion for his kin has overtaken him." He said: Abu Hurayra said: Then the revelation came, and when the revelation came, it was not hidden from us; no one among the people would raise his gaze toward the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) until it was finished. When the revelation was finished, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "O assembly of the Ansar!" They said, "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "You said, 'As for the man, a desire for his village and compassion for his kin has overtaken him'?" They said, "We did indeed say that, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "What would I be called then? No, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I have migrated to Allah and to you. The life is your life, and the death is your death." He said: So they came toward him weeping, saying, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we did not say what we said except out of attachment to Allah and His Messenger." He said, "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger excuse you and believe you."
