Hadith 36:390

Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Yazid, from Mujahid, from Tawus, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "This is a sanctuary—meaning Makkah—which Allah sanctified the day He created the heavens and the earth, and He placed these two mountains. It was not lawful for anyone before me, and it will not be lawful for anyone after me. And it was not made lawful for me except for an hour of the day. Its thorns must not be cut, its game must not be startled, its grass must not be uprooted, and its lost property must not be picked up except by one who announces it." Al-Abbas said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people of Makkah have no patience without *idhkhir* (lemon grass) for their smiths and their buildings." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Except for *idhkhir*."
