Hadith 36:420
'Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Zubayr, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) besieged the people of al-Ta'if. His companions came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the arrows of Thaqif have burned us, so supplicate to Allah against them." He said, "O Allah, guide Thaqif," twice. He said: Khawlah came to him and said, "I have been informed that the daughter of Khuza'i possesses jewelry, so grant me her jewelry as a gift if Allah grants you victory over al-Ta'if tomorrow." He said, "If permission has not been granted to us to fight them." A man—we think it was 'Umar—said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is your stay among a people whom you have not been granted permission to fight?" He said, so he gave the order to the people to depart. He descended at al-Ji'ranah, and he distributed the spoils of Hunayn there. Then he entered from there to perform 'Umrah, and then he returned to Medina.
