Hadith 36:449
Abu Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, Abu Bakr narrated to us, Abu Usama narrated to us, from Zakariya, from Abu Ishaq, who said: A man said to al-Bara’, “Did you flee on the day of Hunayn, O Abu ‘Umara?” He said, “I bear witness regarding the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he did not flee. But a group of the people and the light-armed troops went out toward this tribe of Hawazin, and they were a people of archers. They shot them with a volley of arrows as if it were a swarm of locusts.” He said, “So they were routed, and the people there turned toward the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith was leading his mule. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, dismounted and sought help, saying: ‘I am the Prophet, there is no lie; I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib; O Allah, [send] Your help.’” He said, “By Allah, when the battle grew intense, we would seek protection behind him, and the brave man was the one who would stand alongside him.”
