Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah, from Anas ibn Malik, that Hawazin came on the day of Hunayn with the children, the women, the camels, and the sheep, and they placed them in rows to outnumber the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: Abu Talhah killed twenty men that day and took their spoils. Abu Qatadah said: "O Messenger of Allah, I struck a man on the shoulder-strap, and he was wearing a coat of mail, and I was diverted from him." Hammad said: "I was hurried away from him." He said: "Look for who took it." A man stood up and said: "I took it, so satisfy him with it and give it to me." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, would not be asked for anything except that he would give it or remain silent. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, remained silent. He said: Umar said: "No, by Allah, Allah will not take it as booty from one of His lions and give it to you." Abu Talhah said: "O Umm Sulaym, what is this with you?" She said: "I intended that if any of the polytheists drew near to me, I would rip open his belly with it." Abu Talhah said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you not hear what Umm Sulaym is saying?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah, kill those who are behind us from the Tulaqa (those freed at the conquest of Mecca), for they fled from you, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Indeed, Allah has sufficed and done well."
