Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Jarir, who said: I was in Yemen, and I met two men from the people of Yemen: Dhu Kala' and Dhu 'Amr. I began to speak to them about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). They said, "If what you say is true, then your companion has reached his appointed time three days ago." So I set out, and they set out with me. When we were on some part of the road, a mounted party from the direction of Medina encountered us. We asked them, and they said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has been taken, and Abu Bakr has been made successor, and the people are in a good state." He said: They said to me, "Inform your companion that we have come, and perhaps we shall return, if Allah wills." And they returned to Yemen. He said: I informed Abu Bakr of their conversation. He said, "Why did you not bring them?" He said: When some time had passed, Dhu 'Amr said to me, "O Jarir, you have honor in my sight, and I will inform you of a piece of news: You, the company of Arabs, will continue to be in good state as long as, when a leader dies, you appoint another in his place. But if it becomes a matter of the sword, they will be kings who get angry with the anger of kings and are pleased with the pleasure of kings."
