Hadith 36:503

Hatim ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from Anis ibn Abi Yahya, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came out to us one day while we were in the mosque, and he had his head bound with a rag during the illness in which he died. He leaned toward the pulpit until he sat upon it, and we followed him. He said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I am standing at the Basin (al-Hawd) right now." And he said: "A servant was offered the world and its adornments, so he chose the Hereafter." No one understood what he meant except Abu Bakr. His eyes welled up and he wept, and he said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you; rather, we sacrifice our fathers, our mothers, our selves, and our wealth for you." He said: Then he descended, and he did not stand upon it (the pulpit) again until the Hour (of his death), may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
