Hadith 36:511
Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, Ubayd Allah ibn Umar narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father Aslam: That when the pledge of allegiance was given to Abu Bakr after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Ali and al-Zubayr used to enter upon Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), to consult with her and deliberate on their affair. When that reached Umar ibn al-Khattab, he went out until he entered upon Fatimah and said: "O daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), by Allah, there is no one more beloved to us than your father, and there is no one more beloved to us after your father than you. And by Allah, that will not prevent me, if these people gather at your house, from ordering that the house be burned down upon them." He said: When Umar left, they came to her, and she said: "You know that Umar has come to me, and he has sworn by Allah that if you return, he will surely burn the house down upon you. And by Allah, he will certainly carry out what he has sworn to. So depart, guided, and consider your opinion, and do not return to me." So they departed from her and did not return to her until they gave the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr.
