Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:529

Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Abu Hamzah, from Jariyah ibn Qudamah al-Sa'di, who said: I performed Hajj in the year in which Umar was struck. He said: He delivered a sermon and said, "I saw a rooster peck me two or three times." It was not but a Friday, or thereabouts, until he was struck. He said: Then he gave permission to the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then he gave permission to the people of Medina, then he gave permission to the people of Syria, then he gave permission to the people of Iraq. We were the last to enter upon him, and his stomach was bandaged with a black cloak, and the blood was flowing. Whenever a group entered, they would weep and praise him. We said to him, "Advise us," and no one asked him for a will other than us. He said: "You must adhere to the Book of Allah, for you will never go astray as long as you follow it. And I advise you regarding the Muhajirun, for the people will increase and they will decrease. And I advise you regarding the Ansar, for they are the branch of faith to which it took refuge. And I advise you regarding the Bedouins, for they are your origin and your substance. And I advise you regarding your protected people (dhimmah), for it is the dhimmah of your Prophet and the provision of your families. Rise and leave me." He did not add anything to these words for us.
