Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:555

Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abu Qilabah, that a man from Quraysh called Thumamah was over San‘a. When the news of the killing of ‘Uthman came, he wept and prolonged his weeping. When he recovered, he said: "Today, Prophethood—or he said: the Caliphate—has been snatched away from the nation of Muhammad, and it has become kingship and coercion. So whoever overcomes something, he consumes it."
