Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said on the night of al-Aqaba: "Bring out to me twelve from among you who shall be guarantors for their people, just as the disciples were guarantors for Jesus, son of Mary." The leader (naqib) of Banu al-Najjar—and Ibn Idris said: "They are the maternal uncles of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)"—was As'ad ibn Zurara, Abu Umama. The leaders of Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj were Abdullah ibn Rawaha and Sa'd ibn al-Rabi'. The leaders of Banu Salama were Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Haram and al-Bara' ibn Ma'rur. The leaders of Banu Sa'ida were Sa'd ibn Ubada and al-Mundhir ibn Amr. The leader of Banu Zurayq was Rafi' ibn Malik. The leader of Banu Awf ibn al-Khazraj—and they are the Qawafil—was Ubada ibn al-Samit. The leaders of Banu Abd al-Ashhal were Usayd ibn al-Hudayr and Abu al-Haytham ibn al-Tayyihan. The leader of Banu Amr ibn Awf was Sa'd ibn Khaythama.
