Hadith 36:64

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn al-Mughira narrated to us, he said: Humayd ibn Hilal narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn al-Samit narrated to us, from Abu Dharr, who said: We went out from our people, Ghifar, I, my brother Unays, and our mother. They used to make the sacred month lawful, so we set out until we stayed with a maternal uncle of ours who possessed wealth and a good status. He said: Our uncle honored us and treated us well. His people envied us and said: "If you leave your family, Unays will be behind them." He said: So our uncle came and repeated to us what had been said to him. I said: "As for what has passed of your kindness, you have muddied it, and there is no association for you with us after this." He said: So we brought our camels and loaded them. He said: He covered his head and began to weep. He said: We set out until we stayed in the vicinity of Mecca. He said: Unays gambled for our camels and the like of them. He said: They both went to the soothsayer, and Unays was favored. He said: Unays came to us with our camels and the like of them with them. He said: I had prayed, O son of my brother, before I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for three years. I said: "To whom?" He said: "To Allah." I said: "Where were you facing?" He said: "Wherever Allah directed me. I would pray the night prayer until, when it was the end of the night, I would fall as if I were a garment, until the sun rose over me." He said: Unays said: "I have a need in Mecca, so suffice me until I return to you." He said: He went out and stayed away from me, then came to me. I said: "What detained you?" He said: "I met a man in Mecca who is on your religion, claiming that Allah sent him." I said: "What do the people say to him?" He said: "They claim he is a sorcerer, a soothsayer, and a poet." Unays said: "By Allah, I have heard the speech of the soothsayers, and it is not their speech. I have placed his speech upon the meters of poetry, and it does not fit on the tongue of anyone that he is a poet. By Allah, he is truthful, and they are liars." Unays was a poet. I said: "Suffice me; I will go and look." He said: "Yes, and be cautious of the people of Mecca, for they have shown him hatred and frowned at him." He said: I set out until I arrived in Mecca. He said: I became a guest of a man among them. I said: "Where is the one you call the Sabian?" He said: He pointed to me and said: "The Sabian." The people of the valley leaned upon me with every clod and bone until I fell unconscious. He said: I rose when I rose, and I was like a red pillar. I went to Zamzam and washed the blood from myself and drank from its water. He said: While the people of Mecca were on a moonlit night, Allah struck their ears, so no one among them was circumambulating the House except two women. He said: They came upon me while they were calling upon Isaf and Na'ila. I said: "Marry one of them to the other." He said: That did not deter them from their speech. He said: They came upon me, and I said: "They are like a piece of wood," except that I did not say it. He said: They went away, saying: "If there were any of our men here..." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr met them while they were descending from the mountain. He said: "What is the matter with you two?" They said: "The Sabian is between the Kaaba and its curtains." They said: "What did he say to you?" They said: "He said to us a word that fills the mouth." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came until he reached the Stone, and he and his companion touched it. He said: He circumambulated the House, then prayed his prayer. He said: I came to him when he finished his prayer. He said: I was the first to greet him with the greeting of peace. He said: "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah. From whom are you?" I said: "From Ghifar." He said: He gestured with his hand toward his head. I said to myself: "He disliked that I belonged to Ghifar." I went to take his hand, but his companion prevented me, and he was more knowledgeable of him than I was. He raised his head and said: "How long have you been here?" I said: "I have been here for thirty days and nights." He said: "Who was feeding you?" I said: "I had no food other than the water of Zamzam, until I became fat and the folds of my belly broke, and I did not find any hunger in my liver." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is blessed; it is food that feeds." He said: His companion said: "Permit me to feed him tonight." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr went out, and I went with them. He said: Abu Bakr opened a door and took for me from the raisins of Ta'if. He said: That was the first food I ate there. He said: I stayed as long as I stayed, then I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have been directed to a land with palm trees, and I do not think it is anything but Yathrib. Will you inform your people on my behalf? Perhaps Allah will benefit them through you and reward you through them." I said: "Yes." I set out until I came to Unays. He said: "What did you do?" I said: "I have become a Muslim and believed." Unays said: "I have no aversion to your religion; I have become a Muslim and believed." He said: I came to our mother, and she said: "I have no aversion to your religion; I have become a Muslim and believed." He said: We loaded up until we came to our people, Ghifar. He said: Some of them became Muslims before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina. He said: They were led in prayer by Iyma ibn Rahda, and he was their leader. He said: The rest of them said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrives, we will become Muslims." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina, and the rest of them became Muslims. He said: The tribe of Aslam came and said: "Our brothers, we will become Muslims upon what they became Muslims." He said: So they became Muslims. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Ghifar, may Allah forgive it, and Aslam, may Allah keep it safe."
