Hadith 36:71
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, he said: Isra'il informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Qurra al-Kindi, from Salman, who said: I was one of the sons of the Persian Asawira (cavalry), and I was in a school with two boys. Whenever they returned from their teacher, they would go to a priest and enter upon him, so I entered with them. He said, "Did I not forbid you from bringing anyone to me?" He said: So I kept frequenting him until I became more beloved to him than them. He said: He said to me, "If your family asks you what kept you, say: 'My teacher.' And if your teacher asks you what kept you, say: 'My family.'" Then, he intended to move, so I said to him, "I will move with you." So I moved with him, and we settled in a village. A woman used to come to him. When he was dying, he said to me, "O Salman, dig at my head." So I dug at his head and extracted a jar of dirhams. He said, "Pour them onto my chest." So I poured them onto his chest, and he began to say, "Woe to me for my hoarding!" Then he died. I intended to take the dirhams, but then I remembered, so I left them. Then I informed the priests and monks about him, and they came to him. I said to them, "He has left behind wealth." He said: So some youths in the village stood up and said, "This is the wealth of our father," and they took it. He said: I said to the monks, "Inform me of a knowledgeable man whom I may follow." They said, "We do not know of a man on earth more knowledgeable than a man in Homs." So I set out to him and met him, and I narrated the story to him. He said, "Has nothing brought you here except the seeking of knowledge?" I said, "Nothing brought me here except the seeking of knowledge." He said, "I do not know today of a man on earth more knowledgeable than a man who comes to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) every year. If you set out now, you will find his donkey." He said: So I set out, and there I was at his donkey at the gate of Bayt al-Maqdis. I sat by it, and he went off, and I did not see him until the year had passed. Then he came, and I said to him, "O servant of Allah, what have you done to me?" He said, "Are you still here?" I said, "Yes." He said, "By Allah, I do not know today of a man more knowledgeable than a man who has gone out to the land of Tayma. If you set out now, you will encounter him. He has three signs: he eats a gift but does not eat charity, and at the cartilage of his right shoulder is the Seal of Prophethood, like a pigeon's egg, its color being the color of his skin." He said: So I set out, with the land lifting me and lowering me, until I passed by some Bedouins who enslaved me and sold me, until a woman in Medina bought me. I heard them mentioning the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he was dear. I said to her, "Grant me a day." She said, "Yes." So I set out and gathered firewood, sold it, prepared food, and brought it to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and it was a small amount. I placed it before him, and he said, "What is this?" I said, "Charity." He said to his companions, "Eat," but he did not eat. I said, "This is one of his signs." Then I remained as long as Allah willed that I remain. Then I said to my mistress, "Grant me a day." She said, "Yes." So I set out and gathered firewood, sold it for more than that, and prepared food with it. I brought it to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was sitting among his companions, and I placed it before him. He said, "What is this?" I said, "A gift." He placed his hand and said to his companions, "Take, in the name of Allah." I stood behind him, and he lowered his garment, and there was the Seal of Prophethood. I said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah." He said, "What is that?" So I told him about the man. Then I said, "Will he enter Paradise, O Messenger of Allah? For he told me that you are a Prophet." He said, "No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim soul."
