Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 28:1178

Waki' narrated to us, he said: Al-A'mash narrated to us, from Sa'd bin 'Ubaydah, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, from 'Ali, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent out a military detachment and appointed a man from the Ansar over them. He commanded them to listen to him and obey him. He said: Then they angered him regarding something, so he said: "Gather firewood for me." So they gathered firewood for him. He said: "Kindle a fire." So they kindled a fire. He said: "Did he [the Prophet] not command you to listen to me and obey me?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Then enter it." He said: So some of them looked at others and said: "We only fled to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from the Fire." He said: While they were like that, his anger subsided and the fire went out. He said: When they arrived at the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), they mentioned that to him. He said: "If they had entered it, they would not have come out of it. Obedience is only in what is good."
