Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 28:15

Muhammad ibn Bishr al-‘Abdi narrated to us, he said: Mis‘ar narrated to us, he said: ‘Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud‘an narrated to us, he said: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Samura narrated to me, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to me: "Do not ask for authority, for if you are given it upon asking, you will be left to it (to manage it on your own). And if you are given it without asking, you will be aided in it."
