'Abbad ibn al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Harun ibn 'Antara, from his father, who said: I witnessed 'Uthman. He would bring the stipends of the people. If it was said to him that such-and-such a woman is giving birth tonight, he would say: "How many are you?" "Look, and if she gives birth to a boy or a girl, bring it out [to be included] with the people."
