Hadith 28:396

Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, he said: Hisham ibn Sa’d narrated to us, he said: I heard Zayd ibn Aslam mentioning from his father, he said: I saw ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab appoint his freedman, Hunayy, over the protected pasture (hima). He said: I saw him saying like this: "Woe to you, O Hunayy! Withdraw your wing (restrain your authority) from the people, and fear the supplication of the oppressed, for the supplication of the oppressed is answered. Admit the owner of the small flock and the owner of the few sheep, and leave me away from the livestock of Ibn ‘Affan and Ibn ‘Awf. For if the livestock of Ibn ‘Awf and Ibn ‘Affan were to perish, they would return to Medina to their date palms and their crops. But if the livestock of this poor man were to perish, he would come to me crying, 'O Commander of the Faithful!' Water and pasture are easier for me to provide than to pay out gold and silver. By Allah, by Allah, by Allah, it is their land, for which they fought in the Pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) and upon which they embraced Islam. And were it not for these livestock which are used to carry [supplies] in the way of Allah, I would not have protected any part of their land from the people."
