Hadith 28:446
Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Sa’id, from Bashir ibn Yasar, from a man among the companions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that when the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) prevailed over Khaybar, and Khaybar became the property of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and the Muslims, they became weak in working it. So, they handed it over to the Jews to work on it, on the condition that they would have half of what came out of it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) divided it into thirty-six shares, with one hundred portions for each share. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) set aside half of all that. In that half were the shares of the Muslims and the share of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) along with them. He set aside the other half for those who would arrive to him from the delegations, the affairs, and the calamities of the people.
