Hadith 28:525
Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from Abu al-Bakhtari, who said: When Salman fought the polytheists among the people of Persia, he said: "Hold back until I invite them as I used to hear the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, invite them." So he went to them and said: "I am a man from among you, and you see my position among these people. We invite you to Islam; if you accept Islam, then you shall have what we have, and you shall have the same obligations as we have. If you refuse, then pay the jizya (tribute) willingly while you are humbled. If you refuse that, then we shall fight you." They said: "As for Islam, we will not accept it. As for the jizya, we will not pay it. As for fighting, we will fight you." He said: So he invited them to that for three days, and they refused him. Then he said to the people: "Advance toward them."
