Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 28:528

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: ‘Umar ibn Dharr narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Ishaq ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah, from ‘Ali, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent him on a military expedition. He said to a man who was with him: "Catch up with him and do not let him be behind you, and say: 'The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) commands you to wait for him.'" He said: So he waited for him until he arrived. Then he said: "Do not fight the people until you invite them."
