Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 28:782

Muhammad ibn Hajjaj narrated to us, from Mutarrif, from al-Sha’bi, that he was asked about the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the *safiyy* (the choice portion of spoils). He said: "The share of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was only like the share of a man from the Muslims. As for the *safiyy*, it was a choice item that he would select from the spoils of the Muslims; if he wished, a slave girl, and if he wished, a horse—whichever of those he wished."
