Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 28:809

Narrated to us Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman, from Hisham, from al-Hasan, who said: When the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would conquer a city or a wilderness, they would eat from the *sawiq* (roasted barley flour), flour, ghee, and honey.
