Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Mis’ar narrated to us, from Ma’n ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, he said: A man named Shayban went on a military expedition toward al-Sham, and he had an elderly father. His father said poetry regarding that: "O Shayban, what makes you know how many a night I have embraced you in, and the embrace is beloved? Have you delayed me until, when you have left me, I see one person as two, while he is near? O Shayban, if the armies spend the night bordering them, they endure days in which there are calamities." He said: This reached ‘Umar, so he sent him back.
