Hadith 28:954
Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Wiqa’ al-Asadi, from Abu Zabyan, who said: We were with Salman al-Farsi on a military expedition, either in Jalula or in Nahavand. He said: A man passed by who had gathered fruit, and he began distributing it among his companions. Salman passed by, and the man insulted him. He [Salman] replied to him, while the man did not know him. It was said to him, "This is Salman." So he returned to Salman to apologize to him. The man said to him, "What is permissible for the people of the dhimma (protected non-Muslims), O Abu Abd Allah?" He said: "Three things: [guiding them] from your blindness to your guidance, [helping them] from your poverty to your wealth, and if you accompany a companion among them, you eat from his food and he eats from your food, and you ride his mount, and you do not divert him from a direction he intends to go."
