Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 7:457

Mu'tamir narrated to us, from his father, from Tawus, regarding a vow [made] upon a deceased person: He said, "His heirs shall fulfill it." [It is divided] among them. If a man owed a year of fasting, if they wish, every person among them may fast three months.
