Hadith 7:493
Abu Khalid narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ansari, that a man made a vow to slaughter a camel (*badana*). He came to 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Ali, who said: "The *badana* is from the camels, and it is not to be slaughtered except in Mecca, unless he intended a place of slaughter, then [it is] wherever he intended. If he does not find [one], then seven [sheep] from the sheep." He said: "And I asked Salim, and he said the same as that." He said: "And I asked Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, and he said the same as that, except that he said: 'If he does not find [one], then ten [sheep] from the sheep.'" He said: "And I asked Kharijah ibn Zayd and informed him of what the people had said. He said: 'I did not find our companions counting it as anything other than seven [sheep] from the sheep.'"
