Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:1134

Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Ibrahim al-Taymi, who said: When a man from the companions of Muhammad did not find a garment (rida') to pray in, he would place a rope (iqal) over his shoulders, then he would pray.
