Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:1605

Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Isa ibn Maysarah, from al-Sha’bi, that Umar, Ali, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to rise in prayer upon the balls of their feet.
