Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:1744

Hushaym narrated to us, he said: Ibn ‘Awn informed us, he said: I was with Ibn Sirin at a funeral. When we departed, the time for prayer arrived. He said: When the iqamah was called, it was said to Ibn Sirin, "Step forward." He said, "Let one of you step forward, and let no one step forward except one who has recited the Quran." He said: Then he said to me, "Step forward." So I stepped forward and led them in prayer. When I finished, I said to myself, "What have I done? A thing that Ibn Sirin disliked for himself, I stepped forward ahead of him." So I said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you, you commanded me to do something you disliked for yourself." He said, "I disliked that a passerby might pass by and say, 'This is Ibn Sirin leading the people in prayer.'"
