Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:1751

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Qays ibn ‘Abayah, he said: ‘Abdullah ibn Mughaffal narrated to me, from his father, he said: And I did not see a man among the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) who was more severe against innovation in Islam than him. He said: He heard me while I was reciting "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful." He said: "O my son, beware of innovation, for I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and Abu Bakr, and ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman, and I did not hear any one of them say that. So when you recite, say: 'All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.'"
