Hadith 3:1999

Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, who said: I entered the mosque, and there I was with two old men, one of them reciting the Qur’an to his companion. I sat with them, and one of them was Qays ibn Sakan al-Asadi, and the other was reciting Surah Maryam to him. When he reached the prostration (sajdah), Qays said to him: "Leave it, for we dislike that the people of the mosque see us." So he left it and recited what was after it. Then Qays said: "By Allah, nothing turned us away from it except Satan. Recite it." So he recited it, and we prostrated. When we raised our heads, Qays said to him: "Do you know what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say when he prostrated?" He said: "Yes, he used to say: 'My face has prostrated to the One who created it and split its hearing and its sight.'" He said: "You have spoken the truth. And it has reached me that David used to say: 'My face has prostrated, covered in dust, to my Creator, and it is worthy of Him.'" Then he said: "Glory be to Allah, how much the speech of the prophets resembles one another."
