Hadith 3:2377
Hushaym narrated to us, he said: Husayn ibn Abd al-Rahman informed us, he said: Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah narrated to us, from his father, Abu Qatadah, who said: We traveled with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) one night. He said: We said, "O Messenger of Allah, if only you would let us rest (camp) for the night." He said, "I fear that you will sleep through the prayer." [Bilal] said, "Who will wake us for the prayer?" He said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said: So he let the people rest, and they lay down, and Bilal leaned against his mount, but his eyes overcame him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) woke up when the edge of the sun had risen. He said: "O Bilal, where is what you said to us?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I have never experienced a sleep like it." He said: He replied, "Indeed, Allah seized your souls when He willed and returned them to you when He willed." He said: Then he commanded them, so they dispersed for their needs and performed ablution. The sun rose high, and he led them in the dawn prayer.
