Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:2724

Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Mughirah, from Ibrahim, who said: Our companions used to go on military expeditions and stay for a year or thereabouts; they would shorten the prayer and they would not combine them.
