Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:2905

Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Ibn ‘Awn, who said: I asked Muhammad about a man who is on the day of Friday far from the Imam and does not hear his voice; should he recite [the Quran] into the ear of his companion? He said: I do not know of any harm for a man to remember Allah within himself.
