5490. Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from al-Qasim ibn Abd al-Rahman, from his father, that al-Walid ibn Uqbah delayed the prayer in Kufa, and I was sitting with my father in the mosque. So Abdullah stood up and called for the prayer (iqamah), and he led the people in prayer. Al-Walid ibn Uqbah sent to him, "What compelled you to do what you did? Did an order come to you from the Commander of the Faithful regarding what is before us, so there is hearing and obedience? Or have you innovated what you did today?" He said, "No order came to me from the Commander of the Faithful, and I seek refuge in Allah from innovating. I seek refuge in Allah and His Messenger from waiting for you with our prayer while you are occupied with your needs."
