Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:3322

Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Musa, and from Hammad, from Ibrahim, that an amir of the amirs of Kufa—Sufyan said: one of them was Sa’id ibn al-‘As, and the other said: al-Walid ibn ‘Uqbah—sent for ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, and ‘Abdullah ibn Qays. He said: "This ‘Eid has arrived, so what do you see?" They entrusted their affair to ‘Abdullah [ibn Mas’ud]. He said: "He should say the takbir nine times: a takbir with which he opens the prayer, then he says the takbir three times, then he recites a surah, then he says the takbir, then he bows. Then he stands and recites a surah, then he says the takbir four times, bowing with one of them."
