Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:4352

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Hisham, from his father, that he used to perform the Witr prayer at the beginning of the night. Then, when he would stand [for the night prayer], he would perform an even number of rak'ahs.
