Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:4539

Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, who said: They used to pray upon their mounts and their beasts of burden, wherever their faces were turned, except for the obligatory [prayers] and the Witr, for they used to pray them upon the ground.
