Hussain bin Ali narrated to us, from Za’idah, from ‘Asim bin Abi al-Najud, from Shaqiq, from Masruq, from ‘Aisha, who said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, fainted. When he recovered, he said, "Have the people prayed?" We said, "No." He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless you and grant you peace, Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted man." ‘Asim said: The *asif* is the tender-hearted, merciful one. "And whenever he stands in your place, he will not be able to lead the people in prayer." She said: Then he fainted again. Then he recovered and said the same thing. I repeated [my objection] to him three times. He said, "You are the companions of Yusuf. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." She said: Then the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, felt a lightness in himself, so he went out between Barirah and Thawban, his feet dragging—I can see the whiteness of his feet—while Abu Bakr was leading the people in prayer. When Abu Bakr saw him, he went to step back, but the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, signaled to him not to step back. So Abu Bakr stood beside the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sitting, praying according to the prayer of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the people were praying according to the prayer of Abu Bakr.
