Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:4849

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, that he disliked for a man to lead [the prayer] while looking at the Mushaf, out of dislike that they might resemble the People of the Book.
