Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:5327

Waki’ narrated to us, from Malik, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to encourage the standing (in prayer) of Ramadan, without commanding it as an obligation.
