Hadith 3:5643

Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Hajjaj al-Sawwaf, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Hilal ibn Abi Maymunah, from ‘Ata’ ibn Yasar, from Mu’awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami, who said: While I was praying with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a man from the people sneezed, so I said, "May Allah have mercy on you (Yarhamuk Allah)." The people cast their gazes at me, so I said, "Woe to my mother! What is the matter with you that you are looking at me?" He said: So they began to strike their thighs with their hands. When I saw them silencing me, I became silent. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—may my father and mother be sacrificed for him—had prayed, I have not seen a teacher better than him, neither before nor after him. By Allah, he did not scold me, nor did he insult me, nor did he strike me. He said: "Indeed, this prayer is not suitable for anything of the speech of people; it is only glorification (Tasbih), magnification (Takbir), and the recitation of the Quran," or as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said.
