Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from Abu Nadrah, who said: ‘Imran ibn Husayn passed by our gathering. A young man from the people stood up to him and asked him about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) during Hajj, military expeditions, and ‘Umrah. He came and stood over us and said: "As for this one, he asked me about a matter, and I wanted you to hear it," or as he said. He said: "I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I performed Hajj with him, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I witnessed the Conquest with him, and he stayed in Mecca for eighteen nights, not praying except two rak'ahs, saying to the people of the city: 'Pray four, for we are travelers.' I performed ‘Umrah with him three times, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs. I performed Hajj with Abu Bakr and went on a military expedition, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I performed Hajj with ‘Umar for several Hajj seasons, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I performed Hajj with ‘Uthman for seven years of his caliphate, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs, then he prayed four at Mina."
