Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:5813

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Husayn narrated to us, from Abu Najih al-Makki, he said: The companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, accompanied one another on a journey. Some of them would complete [the prayer] and some of them would shorten [it], and some of them would fast and some of them would break their fast. Neither did these find fault with those, nor did those find fault with these.
