Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:5936

Al-Fadl ibn Dukayn narrated to us, he said: Zuhayr narrated to us, from al-Aswad ibn Qays, he said: Tha’labah ibn ‘Abbad al-‘Abdi narrated to me that he witnessed a sermon one day by Samurah ibn Jundub. He mentioned in his sermon a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Samurah said: "While I and a boy from the Ansar were one day shooting at a target of ours during the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), until when the sun was the length of two or three spears in the eye of the observer from the horizon, it darkened until it became as if it were a *tanumah* (a dark plant)." He said: "One of us said to his companions, 'Let us go to the mosque, for by Allah, this sun will surely cause an event for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) among his nation.' He said: So we pushed on to the mosque, and it was open and crowded." He said: "We met the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) when he came out to the people. He stepped forward and prayed with us for the longest time he had ever stood with us in a prayer, during which we did not hear a sound from him. Then he prostrated with us for the longest time he had ever prostrated with us in a prayer, during which we did not hear a sound from him." He said: "Then he did the same in the second rak'ah." He said: "The clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rak'ah, so he performed the taslim."
