Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:6287

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Awza’i, from Marthad ibn Abi Marthad, from his father, who said: I was with Abu Dharr at the middle Jamrah, so I asked him about the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr). He said: "I was the one who asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, inform me about the Night of Decree. Was it something that existed during the time of the prophets, and when they passed away, it was lifted?' He said: 'No, but it will continue until the Day of Resurrection.'" He said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, then inform us about it.' He said: 'If I had been given permission regarding it, I would have informed you. But seek it in the last seven [nights], and do not ask me about it after this standing of mine or yours.' Then he began speaking about something else. When he became relaxed, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I adjure you to tell me about it.'" Abu Dharr said: "He became angry with me with an anger the likes of which he had never shown me before or after."
