Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn ‘Ayyash ibn Rabi’ah, from Hakim ibn Hakim ibn ‘Abbad ibn Hunayf, from Nafi’ ibn Jubayr ibn Mut’im, from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Gabriel led me in prayer at the House (the Ka'bah) twice. He prayed the Dhuhr prayer with me when the sun had declined, and it was the length of a sandal strap. He prayed the ‘Asr prayer with me when the shadow of everything was equal to it. He prayed the Maghrib prayer with me when the fasting person breaks his fast. He prayed the ‘Isha prayer with me when the twilight had disappeared. He prayed the Fajr prayer with me when food and drink became forbidden to the fasting person. He prayed the Dhuhr prayer with me the next day when the shadow of everything was equal to it. He prayed the ‘Asr prayer with me when the shadow of everything was twice its length. He prayed the Maghrib prayer with me when the fasting person breaks his fast. He prayed the ‘Isha prayer with me at the third of the night. He prayed the Fajr prayer with me when it had become bright. Then he turned to me and said: 'O Muhammad, this is the time of the prophets before you, and the time is what is between these two times.'"
